NCAA's nightmare week overshadows Final Four hype

Mark Emmert Final Four news conference View full size NCAA President Mark Emmert speaks at a news conference Thursday in Atlanta. ? Wichita State. Louisville. Michigan. Syracuse.

These will be the four schools squaring off on Saturday to decide which teams will make up the national title game Monday night.

But those aren't the college programs you have been hearing about the most this week.

All I have been hearing is former Rutgers coach Mike Rice and his now infamous video, another report of Auburn wrongdoings during their national championship football season and the Pac-12 Conference coordinator of officials resigning after threatening (or joking) about rewarding refs for handing out technical fouls. Oh and you can't forget about the always developing situations at Penn State and Miami.

Mark Emmert's Final Four news conference even had little to do with the upcoming national semifinals. It was mostly him defending his past after a troubling report about his career as a university president was released earlier this week. The NCAA president even got into it with CBS Sports reporter Dennis Dodd, who has said in recent months that Emmert should step down.

"I'm still here," Emmert said to Dodds. "I know you're disappointed, but here I am."

With the scandals, troubling reports and lawsuits against the NCAA seemingly growing by the day, I'm pretty sure Emmert has a lot more important things to worry about than taking a shot at a reporter.

But it's OK, Mr. Emmert. Basketball is almost upon us. You can just sit back, relax and enjoy the games. It's not like any of the participants in the Final Four were connected to possible NCAA violations right before the tournament or anything. Oh whoops, I forgot.
